A multiple-sport standout from 1986 to 1989 at Grove City College, Patty Brain earned nine total letters during her collegiate career. The Harmony, Pa., native earned three letters each in basketball, cross country, and track and field while earning acclaim in all three sports at Grove City.

Brain helped Grove City capture its first Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship in women’s basketball in 1987 as the Wolverines finished 17-3 overall and 12-0 in conference play.

The following year as a sophomore team captain, she averaged 13.1 points and 12.0 rebounds per game to rank second on the team in both categories.

In 1988-89, Brain averaged 15.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per game while helping Grove City to a 16-7 overall mark and a 9-3 conference record. She earned All-PAC and team Most Valuable Player following the season.

Brain competed on the first three women’s track and field teams at Grove City and helped the team to its first conference title in 1989. She earned runner-up honors in the high jump and 800 meters at the 1989 conference championships.

She established the school record in the high jump in 1987 with a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches, then broke that record by clearing 5-4 in 1988. That mark remains the Grove City standard.

Brain also set Grove City’s 800-meter record in 1988 with a time of 2:28.93. She earned team MVP honors in 1988.

Brain also ran on Grove City’s first three women’s cross country teams and placed eighth at the 1986 conference championships, earning Second Team All-PAC. In 1987, she helped Grove City place ninth at the NCAA Mideast Championships. She earned team MVP as a junior in 1988.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics/secondary education.
