Warren, Pa., product Allison Atwood excelled in both tennis and softball at Grove City College from 2000 to 2004, earning eight total letters and numerous honors from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

In tennis, Atwood capped her career by earning the conference’s Player of the Year award in both 2002 and 2003.

Overall, she won conference titles in both singles and doubles competition in each of her four seasons.

Atwood compiled a 47-9 career singles record and a 42-12 doubles record. She went 36-0 in conference matches while helping lead Grove City to four straight league titles under head coach Cathy Jacobs.

As a pitcher and second baseman for the Grove City softball team, Atwood earned All-PAC recognition in each of her four seasons, including First Team honors in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

She capped her career by hitting .473 in 2004 while also leading the team in hits, total bases and runs batted in. Atwood also earned the PAC’s Pitcher of the Year award in 2004 after posting a 1.08 earned run average.

In her junior season, Atwood struck out a program-record 112 batters. She owns Grove City’s single-season and career records for strikeouts per seven innings. Her .367 career batting average ranks fourth all-time at the College.

In 2015, the conference named Atwood to its 60th Anniversary Team in both women’s tennis and softball.

Atwood earned CoSIDA Academic All-District in both sports during her career. She also earned Dean’s List and PAC Academic Honor Roll distinction.

Atwood graduated from Grove City in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. In 2010, she completed her doctorate in cancer biology at Vanderbilt University.
