Grove City finished the season as the nation’s No. 7-ranked team in NCAA Division III.

Smith also ranked second on the team in scoring in his sophomore and junior seasons, concluding his career with 1,171 points. He ranked seventh all-time in scoring at Grove City upon graduation.

He capped his career at the College by earning the 1982-83 Sportsman of the Year award. Smith also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors during his senior season. The Pittsburgh Press named him to its All-District Team for the 1982-83 season.
