GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened its home and Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III schedules Friday by splitting a pair of matches in James E. Longnecker Pool.
Grove City earned a 16-6 win over Wheaton (Mass.) in Friday afternoon's opener. Washington & Jefferson slipped past the Wolverines in the nightcap, 13-11.
Four Wolverines scored multiple goals against Wheaton, led by a six-goal outing from sophomore
Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary). Senior
Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) rifled in a season-high four goals while sophomore
Emma Strahorn (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) also scored four times.Â
Junior
Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) scored twice while also adding two assists. Baksa led Grove City with four assists while Strahorn pumped in three goals.Â
Freshman
Amelia Hervey (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) recorded two assists while classmate
Emily Addison (Eads, Tenn./Faith Heritage Christian), senior goalie
Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and Sill also had an assist.
Strahorn secured six steals while Addison and Tihansky both had three steals. Steen made five saves while Baksa stopped one shot during her stint in goal.
Baksa scored four times against W&J while Strahorn and Hervey both registered a pair of goals. Addison and Sill also scored.
Tihansky led Grove City with four assists. Sill and Strahorn both assisted two goals while Addison, Baksa and Hervey all tallied one assist.
Strahorn and Tihansky each had three steals. Steen stopped seven shots.Â
Grove City will host Connecticut College at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The Wolverines close the weekend with a 3 p.m. clash against Penn State Behrend.
