ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team closed its regular season road schedule Saturday by earning a 16-14 win at longtime rival Penn State Behrend in a non-conference clash in the Junker Centre pool.
Sophomore
Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) helped spearhead Grove City's offensive attack by scoring six times. Junior
Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) fired in three goals and assisted on three other scores while freshman
Emily Addison (Eads, Tenn./Faith Heritage Christian) scored twice and posted four assists.
Seniors
Candace Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and
Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) also scored goals, as did freshman
Amelia Hervey (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley).
Sill also assisted on a pair of goals. Baksa and senior goalie
Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) added assists, as well.
Steen stopped 11 shots to preserve the win. Baksa tallied five steals while Tihansky totaled three steals. Addison had two takeaways.
Grove City went 2-1 against Behrend during the regular season. Grove City outscored the Lions, 44-43, in the three games. Behrend defeated Grove City, 15-13, February 27 in Erie. Grove City secured a 15-14 home win March 7 over the Lions in James E. Longnecker Pool.
The Wolverines close the home schedule Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. by hosting western Pennsylvania rival Gannon in a non-conference clash at James E. Longnecker Pool.
