ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a 15-13 decision Friday evening at Penn State Behrend in a clash of regional rivals at the Junker Center Pool.
Grove City trailed 5-1 after one quarter but rallied to forge a 7-7 tie by halftime. Each team scored three times in the third quarter but Behrend outscored Grove City in the fourth frame, 5-3.
Junior
Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) and sophomore
Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) both scored three times for Grove City. Seniors
Candace Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and
Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) both scored a pair of goals, as did freshman
Emily Addison (Eads, Tenn./Faith Heritage Christian).Â
Sophomore
Emma Strahorn (Harleyville, Pa./North Penn) added a goal and two assists. Sill led the Wolverines with three assists while Scalise assisted two goals. Tihansky also tallied an assist.Â
Senior goalie
Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) stopped eight shots for Grove City.
The Wolverines return to action Saturday with two matches in Erie at the Hagerty Family Events Center. Grove City plays Saint Francis at 9 a.m., then closes the weekend with a 7:30 p.m. tilt against Mercyhurst.
