WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches February 22 at Washington & Jefferson College's Henry Center Natatorium. Host W&J slipped past Grove City in triple overtime, 18-17, while Division II Gannon downed Grove City in the nightcap, 26-14.
Six Grove City players scored against Washington & Jefferson, led by a six-goal outing from sophomore
Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary). Junior
Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) pumped in four goals while senior
Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) scored three times.Â
Freshman
Emily Addison (Eads, Tenn./Faith Heritage Christian) scored twice while senior
Candace Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and freshman
Amelia Hervey (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) also scored.
Addison and sophomore
Emma Strahorn (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) both recorded three assists while Baksa and Sill each assisted two goals. Hervey also had an assist, as did senior goalie
Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg).Â
Steen tallied six steals while Addison had three takeaways. Steen stopped 10 shots.Â
Both teams scored twice in the first two overtime periods. W&J then scored in the sudden-death third overtime session.
Sill and Tihansky both scored three times against Gannon. Addison and Scalise all scored twice while Baksa and Hervey contributed goals. Baksa and Strahorn each chalked up three assists while Scalise and Sill also had assists.Â
Steen made three saves in goal for Grove City.Â
The Wolverines return to action this weekend to play three matches in Erie. Friday night, Grove City visits Penn State Behrend at 7 p.m. Saturday, the Wolverines meet Saint Francis and Mercyhurst at the Hagerty Family Events Center in Erie.
