Grove City splits at CWPA Championships

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championships, hosted by Augustana College at Anne Greve Lund Natatorium. 

After dropping a 12-8 decision to Carthage in Saturday's opener, the Wolverines rebounded for a 22-6 triumph over Wheaton (Mass.) in the second outing of the day.

All 11 Grove City players recorded a goal and/or an assist against Wheaton. Sophomore Shasyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) and junior Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) both fired in four goals for the Wolverines while juniors Candace Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) each racked up three goals.

Seniors Kamryn Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and Mikayla Zablocki (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) both scored twice. Senior Riley McCullough (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge) and Sam Logue (Hollister, Calif/San Benito) scored, as did freshmen Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) and Emam Strahorn (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn).

Kerr and Sill each had four assists while Baksa, McCullough and Scalise assisted two goals apiece. Strahorn, Tihansky, Zablocki and freshman Zoe Luttrell (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) all chalked up an assist. 

Baksa and Kerr both helped pace the defense against Wheaton with five steals. Sill secured four steals.

Steen started in goal and made two saves. Tihansky also had two saves while Baksa closed out the win with five saves. 

Baksa led Grove City with three goals against Carthage while Sill and Tihansky both scored twice in the opener. McCullough also scored. Strahorn had two assists while Baksa, Kerr and Sill also recorded assists. 

Baksa and Steen led the defense with four steals each. Sill added two steals. Steen made seven saves. 

Grove City will conclude the tournament and the 2025 season Sunday at 10 a.m. Eastern against Connecticut College in the seventh place match.
