GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team closed its Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference schedule Saturday by dropping a pair of home games at James E. Longnecker Pool.
Augustana (Ill.) topped Grove City in Saturday's opener, 23-8. Carthage then slipped past the Wolverines in the nightcap, 16-15.Â
Six Grove City players scored against Carthage, led by a five-goal outing from freshman
Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary). Sophomore
Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) scored four goals while seniors
Kamryn Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and
Riley McCullough (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge) both fired in a pair of goals.
Senior
Sam Logue (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) and freshman
Zoe Luttrell (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) also scored.Â
Kerr led Grove City with four assists while Tihansky assisted two goals. McCullough, senior
Mikayla Zablocki (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) and freshman
Emma Strahorn (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) each added an assist, as did junior goalie
Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg).Â
Baksa and Kerr both recorded four steals. Steen had three steals. Baksa and Tihansky both blocked two shots while Steen stopped eight shots.Â
Augustana pulled away from the Wolverines in the second half by outscoring Grove City, 8-3, over the final 16 minutes.
Baksa chalked up four goals. Tihansky scored twice while Kerr and Luttrell also registered goals. McCullough finished with three assists while Strahorn assisted two goals. Kerr and Zablocki also had assists.Â
Baksa led the defensive with five steals. Steen stopped two shots.Â
Prior to the nightcap, Grove City honored its four-woman senior class of Kerr, Logue, McCullough and Zablocki.Â
The Wolverines (3-11, 2-6) will play a pair of matches next Saturday at Washington & Jefferson. Grove City faces W&J at 11 a.m. before meeting Penn State Behrend at 2 p.m.
