GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened its 2025 home schedule Friday by hosting a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III conference games at James E. Longnecker Pool.
Austin topped Grove City in Friday morning's lidlifter, 22-8, while Macalester pulled away for a 20-10 win over the Wolverines in the second outing Friday.
Sophomore
Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) and freshman
Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) both scored three times against Austin while seniors
Kamryn Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and
Riley McCullough (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge) added a goal.Â
Tihansky and freshman
Zoe Luttrell (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) both recorded two assists while seniors
Sam Logue (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) and
Mikayla Zablocki (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) both tallied an assist.
Junior goalie
Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) made six saves.Â
Grove City trailed Macalester 6-1 early in the second quarter but charged back to within 9-7 late in the period. Macalester led 10-7 at the intermission, then took control of the game with a 6-1 run in the third quarter.Â
Baksa fired in four goals for Grove City (3-9, 2-4 CWPA Division III) while Tihansky scored three goals. Kerr recorded a pair of goals and Luttrell added a score.Â
Baska and Tihansky each had two assists. Kerr, Luttrell and McCullough also had assists.Â
Baksa registered four steals. Steen stopped four shots.Â
The Wolverines will face Augustana (Ill.) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Grove City closes the weekend at 6:30 p.m. by hosting Carthage. That will be Grove City's Senior Night game, with Kerr, Logue, McCullough and Zablocki all being recognized before the game.
