Offensive outburst for Wolverines

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team concluded the opening weekend of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III conference play March 9 by piling up 41 goals in a pair of matches at Penn State Behrend. 

Grove City opened the day with a 25-10 win over Wheaton (Mass.). Washington & Jefferson out-gunned the Wolverines in the second outing of the day, 30-16, bringing Grove City's conference mark to 2-2.

Nine Wolverines scored in the opener, including seven multi-goal performances. Freshman Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) fired in seven goals for the Wolverines while sophomore Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) scored five times. 

Freshman Zoe Luttrell (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) pumped in three goals while senior Kamryn Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids), senior Sam Logue (Hollister, Calif./San Benito), senior Riley McCullough (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge) and freshman Emma Strahorn (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) all scored twice. 

Grove City also received goals from juniors Candace Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne). 

Kerr posted a season-high six assists while Tihansky recorded five assists. Baksa, Luttrell, Sill and Strahorn all assisted two goals. McCullough, senior Mikayla Zablocki (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) and junior Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) each assisted one goal. 

Steen made nine saves in goal. Baksa also saw time in goal and made three saves. She led the Wolverines with four steals. Luttrell had a pair of steals. 

Tihansky led Grove City with seven goals against W&J. Kerr contributed three goals while Luttrell and Sill both scored twice. Scalise and Baksa also scored for Grove City (3-7). 

Kerr assisted four goals while Luttrell added two assists. Baksa, McCullough, Sill and Strahorn also chalked up assists. Sill secured four steals. Steen stopped five shots. 

The Wolverines return to action March 28-29, when they host CWPA Division III conference action in James E. Longnecker Pool.
