ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team concluded the opening weekend of the 2025 season by facing both Gannon and host Mercyhurst in the second day of action at Mercyhurst's Robinette Memorial at Hagerty Family Events Center.
Following a split Saturday, Grove City dropped a 16-6 decision to Gannon and then fell to Division I Mercyhurst, 23-11, in the tournament finale.Â
Freshman
Frances Baksa (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) fired in four goals against Gannon while junior
Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Fla./Princess Anne) and freshman
Zoe Luttrell (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) also scored. Sill also assisted two goals, as did senior
Kamryn Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids). Junior
Candace Scalise (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) added an assist.
Sill led the defense with three steals. Junior
Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) stopped eight shots in goal.Â
Sophomore
Shastyn Tihansky (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) scored four times in the nightcap against Mercyhurst. Baksa recorded three goals while Luttrell, Sill, freshman
Emma Strahorn (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) and senior
Mikayla Zablocki (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) also scored.Â
Kerr assisted three scores against Mercyhurst. Senior
Riley McCullough (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge) chalked up two assists. Luttrell, Sill, Strahorn, Tihansky and senior
Sam Logue (Hollister, Calif./San Bruno) also recorded assists.Â
Steen stopped six shots.Â
Grove City returns to action over spring break with a pair of matches March 3-4 at the Claremont (Calif.) Convergence. Grove City will play Whittier at 7 p.m. EST in the March 3 opener, then faces Caltech at 8 p.m. Eastern the next day.Â
