Four earn conference awards Monday

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City College fall sports athletes earned Presidents' Athletic Conference weekly recognition Monday afternoon as a result of their respective performances last week.

The Grove City women's soccer team produced two honorees as junior midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) earned Offensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Emily Horst (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) captured Newcomer of the Week.

In men's soccer, senior midfielder Camden Thomas (North Lima, Ohio/South Range) secured Offensive Player of the Week while Defensive Player of the Week status went to senior linebacker Caleb Brubaker (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) in football.

Stevenson and Horst helped Grove City to a pair of conference victories last week. Stevenson scored the game-winning goal last Wednesday evening in a 2-0 home win over Franciscan at Don Lyle Field. Stevenson then recorded her first regular season hat trick Saturday as Grove City rolled to a 6-0 victory at Chatham.

Stevenson has scored 10 of her team-leading 11 goals in conference play.

Horst assisted Stevenson's goal against Franciscan and then added an insurance goal. Horst then assisted two goals Saturday in the Wolverines' victory at Chatham. Horst now has three goals, four assists and 10 points in her 11 appearances this year.

The victories kept the Wolverines (8-4-2, 7-0-1 PAC) atop the conference with 22 points. Grove City has won six straight matches.

Thomas scored twice last Wednesday to help lift the Wolverines to a 4-2 win over visiting Franciscan in a clash of conference undefeateds at Don Lyle Field. He then scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute Saturday at Chatham as Grove City picked up a 2-0 triumph.

Thomas has four goals, which is tied for second on the squad this year. Grove City is 9-0-1 in its last 10 matches. The Wolverines are 10-2-2 overall and are atop the conference standings with a 7-0-1 record, good for 22 points.

Brubaker recorded 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack Saturday in Grove City's 42-6 win at Allegheny. He helped Grove City hold the Gators to 58 rushing yards on 25 attempts and 182 total yards on 56 plays (3.3 yards per play). Brubaker set up Grove City's second touchdown in the first quarter by returning a blocked punt 13 yards to the Allegheny 2.

Brubaker leads Grove City (4-2, 3-1) with 53 tackles this season. He has 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks this year.
