WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team captured the top seed in the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament by securing a 4-0 road win Wednesday night over Waynesburg University at John F. Wiley Stadium.
Winners of nine straight, Grove City (11-4-2, 10-0-1 PAC) will have home-field advantage throughout the six-team tournament, which starts Saturday. Waynesburg (14-2-2, 8-1-2) will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Both teams receive byes to the semifinal round and will host semifinal matches next Wednesday.
Freshman midfielder
Ady Waters (Port Clinton, Ohio/Tree of Life Christian) broke a scoreless tie at 37:59 when her blast from 25 yards out deflected off a defender and into the net. It is Waters' third goal of the season and her second game-winner.
Grove City then broke open the match with three goals in the final 22 minutes. Sophomore forward
Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) doubled the lead at 68:01 with her eighth goal this year. Junior forward
Hannah Plunkard (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) assisted White's score.
Freshman forward
Lauren Muhanna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon) helped seal the win with her fifth goal of the season as she scored at 87:07. Graduate student midfielder
Moriah Miller (Kidron, Ohio/Kidron Central Christian) assisted Muhanna. Muhanna then notched an assist two minutes later when her pass to junior midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) resulted in a goal at 89:30.
Junior goalie
Maddie Mills (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) made four saves to preserve Grove City's ninth straight shutout. That is Grove City's longest shutout streak since a nine-match run in 2018.
Grove City outshot Waynesburg, 25-12, including a 15-5 edge in shots on goal. The Wolverines had four corner kicks while Waynesburg had a pair of corner kicks.
Stevenson is now tied for seventh in single-season program history with 15 goals. Muhanna's nine assists are tied for seventh in program history and the most ever by a Grove City rookie.
Grove City will host either No. 4 Chatham or No. 5 Franciscan in the conference semifinals next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Chatham will host Franciscan in a quarterfinal match Saturday at 1 p.m.
