Grove City clinches tournament bye

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team clinched one of the top two seeds in the season-ending six-team Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament by earning a 3-0 home win Wednesday night over visiting Saint Vincent (12-3-1, 6-2-1) in conference action at Don Lyle Field.

Grove City (9-4-2, 8-0-1) remains atop the conference with 25 points. The Wolverines can finish no lower than second in the regular season standings as a result of Wednesday's win. The top two teams in the conference receive byes to the semifinal round of the conference tournament.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 4:38 when senior midfielder Natalie Giunta (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) scored her second goal of the season. 

Grove City doubled its lead at 11:03 as junior midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) booted in her team-leading 12th goal of the season. Stevenson, the reigning Offensive Player of the Week in the conference, has scored 11 goals in nine conference matches.

Freshman midfielder Lauren Muhanna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon) assisted Stevenson's goal. It is Muhanna's team-best seventh assist of the season. 

Sophomore forward Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) capped the scoring by registering her seventh goal of the season at 83:05. Freshman midfielder Emily Horst (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County), the conference's Newcomer of the Week this week, assisted White's goal.

Junior goalkeeper Maddie Mills (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) secured Grove City's eighth shutout by making one save. Wednesday's whitewash marked Grove City's seventh consecutive shutout, which is the team's longest shutout streak in seven years. 

Grove City outshot Saint Vincent, 21-1, including a 13-1 margin in shots on goal. The Wolverines totaled seven corner kicks while Saint Vincent netted one corner kick. 

The Wolverines host Washington & Jefferson (6-8-2, 3-4-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the regular season home finale. The regular season concludes next Wednesday, October 29, at Waynesburg University (13-1-2, 7-0-2).
