Box Score 2 LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team opened the northern portion of its 2024 schedule Wendesday afternoon by capturing both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Fayette (2-2). Grove City (6-6) won the opener, 9-0, then earned a 15-4 victory in Game Two. Both games went five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Grove City pounded out 17 hits in the opener as five players produced multi-hit games. Junior first baseman
Brooke Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore) tripled twice as part of a three-hit outing while senior designated player
Erin Mulholland (Malvern, Pa./Delaware County Christian) also went 3 for 3.

Lauren Harris (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) went 2 for 2 in the opener. Junior left fielder
Ella Krarup (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) and freshman pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) each went 2 for 3. Sophomore shortstop
Rylie Eaton (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) doubled while sophomore third baseman
Lily DeMeio (Renfrew, Pa./Butler) scored twice.
Grove City grabbed a quick 2-0 lead as Brodie's first inning triple scored junior third baseman
Rachel Zona (New Castle, Pa./New Castle). Brodie then scored on a Meadors single. Eaton belted a two-run double in the third inning, bringing home Mulholland and Brodie.
Later in the third, junior right fielder
Annika Rinehart (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) drove in junior second baseman
Maci Linhart (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana) with a sacrifice fly.Â
Meadors and Mulholland both had run-scoring singles in the fifth inning. Brodie's two-run triple closed the scoring.Â
Meadors earned the pitching win by striking out 10 batters in four shutout innings. She allowed one hit. Freshman reliever
Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) struck out three in the fifth inning.
Grove City scored eight times in the top of the first inning in Game Two. Sophomore center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) highlighted the inning with a grand slam, her first collegiate home run.Â
Brodie and freshman left fielder
Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) both tripled in the nightcap while sophomore catcher
Jonalyn Wharry (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) doubled. Montone also singled while winning pitcher Jackson went 2 for 3. Jackson, Montone and junior pitcher
Emily Wentworth (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) all scored twice.Â
Jackson earned the win by pitching four innings. She struck out four while allowing three earned runs. Wentworth pitched the fifth inning, allowing one run.
Grove City will visit Penn State Altoona at 3 p.m. Thursday.
