GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball split split a home doubleheader Tuesday afternoon with Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Allegheny. Grove City dropped the opener in eight innings, 1-0, but rebounded for a 6-1 victory in Game Two at College Field.
Grove City (13-4, 5-2) trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning of the second game before surging ahead with a six-run outburst. Sophomore pitcher
Alivia Lantzy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) tied the game by singling in junior left fielder
Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).Â
The Wolverines then took the lead when sophomore catcher
Sydney Shay (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) belted a two-run double that scored Lantzy and senior center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion).
A walk to junior shortstop
Abby Stouffer (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) loaded the bases for freshman third baseman
Emma Vok (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek). Vok cleared the bases with a double to left field, driving in Stouffer, Shay and freshman first baseman
Cora Myers (Blanchard, Pa./Central Mountain).
Lantzy also doubled as part of a 2-for-3 outing. Myers also went 2 for 3.Â
Lantzy (6-1) earned the pitching victory by throwing a complete game. She allowed six singles in seven innings while striking out two and walking one.Â
Grove City stranded 11 runners in Game One, including seven in scoring position. Montone and junior pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) both had two hits while senior catcher
Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) roped a double.Â
Meadors threw a complete game, allowing one run in eight innings. She held Allegheny to four singles. Meadors (6-2) struck out four and walked one.
Meadors now has 301 career strikeouts. She is the second player in program history to reach 300 strikeouts. Lauren Pennell (2008-11) owns the College's career record with 302 strikeouts.Â
Grove City will host conference foe Chatham at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a doubleheader at College Field.
