4 earn All-Mideast

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City College baseball players earned D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region honors Tuesday morning in recognition of their respective performances during the 2021 season.

Sophomore third baseman C.J. Saylor (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) earned First Team All-Mideast honors. Junior pitcher Tate Ostrowski (Essex, Mass./Covenant Christian) captured Second Team All-Region while senior second baseman Bobby Abbott (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and senior catcher Tanner Orner (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each earned Third Team All-Mideast.

Saylor led the Presidents' Athletic Conference with 52 runs scored and 29 walks this season. The 52 runs scored are the most in Grove City single-season history while the 29 walks are the fourth-highest total in program annals. Saylor led Grove City with 82 total bases, which ranked third in the league. His .577 slugging mark ranked sixth in the PAC. Saylor shared the team lead with four home runs.

Saylor began the season as Grove City's primary catcher before seeing extensive action at third base as 2021 progressed. He also earned First Team All-PAC recognition.

Ostrowski went 8-2 with a 1.78 earned run average this season. He led the conference with 82 strikeouts while pitching 70 2/3 innings. He held opposing hitters to a .191 batting average this spring. Ostrowski ranked second in the conference in ERA and batting average against.

Ostrowski highlighted the 2021 season by pitching a perfect game April 23 against Bethany. He struck out 10 men in seven innings that day. Ostrowski twice struck out a dozen batters this season.

His 1.78 ERA is the lowest for a Grove City pitcher since the NCAA introduced metal bats in 1974. Ostrowski's 82 strikeouts are the No. 2 single-season mark in program history. He earned First Team All-PAC.

Abbott led the conference with 58 hits and 47 runs batted in this spring. He ranked second in the conference with a .426 batting average while adding a dozen doubles. He hit .488 with two outs this season. A three-year starter at shortstop, Abbott moved to second base early in the season and further solidified the Grove City infield. He began the 2021 season as Grove City's designated hitter.

Abbott's 58 hits rank fifth on Grove City's single-season list while his 47 RBIs are the fourth-most in program history. He earned All-PAC First Team this spring.

Orner won the conference batting title this year by hitting .454. He also led the conference with a .493 on-base percentage. Orner's .622 slugging percentage ranked fifth in the league, as did his 54 total bases. He also ranked fourth in the circuit in hits (54) and doubles (14) while splitting time between DH and catcher.

Orner's .454 batting average is the seventh-highest mark in program history. A First Team All-PAC honoree this year, Orner earned four letters at catcher and DH for the Wolverines.

Grove City's four honorees are the first D3baseball.com All-Region selections for the program since first baseman Matt Waugaman earned Third Team honors in 2016.

Grove City finished 28-10 overall this season. The Wolverines (22-5 PAC) set a program record with 27 regular-season victories and tied the program record with 28 total wins. Grove City's 22 conference wins also set a program record.
