MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Led by a pair of wins from Field Most Valuable Performer
Seth Ray (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) and a victory in the shot put by fellow senior
Jared Gay (Doylestown, Ohio/Chippewa), the Grove City College men's track and field team earned second place out of nine teams at the 2021 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, held Thursday and Friday at West Virginia University.
Grove City finished with 139 team points. Geneva won the event with 157 points. Westminster took third with 128 points.
Ray won the triple jump with a best mark of 44 feet, 2 inches, then cleared 6-2 3/4 to win the high jump. Ray also took third in the javelin with a throw of 185 feet, 7 inches and placed fifth in the pole vault by clearing 9-2. He also earned Field MVP honors at the 2019 outdoor championships.
Gay won the shot put with a best mark of 43-9 1/2. Gay added a runner-up finish in the discus with a best effort of 138 feet.Â
Two other Grove City fieldmen earned runner-up finishes. Junior
D.J. Mulroy (Suderland, Vt./Burr and Burton) earned second in the javelin with a throw of 188-6. Senior
Cody Gustafson (Newburg, Pa./Shippensburg) earned second in the triple jump by marking at 42-11 1/2. Gustafson added a third-place finish in the long jump (21-4 3/4).

James Parenti (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) captured third in the shot put (41-2 3/4) and freshman
J.D. Black (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) took third in the discus (135-3).Â

Andrew Longjohn (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) combined to take fourth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 44.70 seconds.Â

Matt Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould Academy) took fourth in the 1500 with a time of 4 minutes, 21 seconds. Junior
Nathan Warrick (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) placed fourth in the 3000 steeplechase (10:18.70).Â
Senior
Chris Sweeney (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) earned foruth in the triple jump with a mark of 42-3/4. He also finished fifth in the long jump (20-3). Dunlap finished fifth in the triple jump with a best leap of 41-2 1/4.
Warrick earned fifth in the 5000 meters (16:36.33). Senior
Thomas Troxel (Wheaton, Ill./Timothy Christian) earned fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:03.45 while senior
Malachi Lyon (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) took fifth in the 1500 (4:26.30). Troxel, Lyon, Bennett and freshman
Caleb Warrick combined for sixth place in the 1600-meter relay (3:42.71).
Junior
Noah Callinan (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) took sixth in the 10,000 with a time of 35:01.52. Warrick took seventh in the 800 (2:07.55) while freshman
Cory Boyer (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) took seventh in the 110 hurdles (18.18). Freshman
Nick Gustafson (Newburg, Pa./Shippensburg) placed seventh in the shot put with a best heave of 38-10 1/2.
Dunlap earned eighth in the long jump (19-5) while Longjohn took eighth in the triple jump (40-6 1/2). Boyer finished eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 64.42 seconds. Junior
Calvin Raab (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) took eighth in the 800 (2:06.98) and sophomore
Bergen Weiner (Osceola, Pa./Wellsboro) placed eighth in the steeplechase (10:54.00).
Grove City's 139 team points are the most for the Wolverines since 2010.
