GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three Grove City College spring sports athletes earned Presidents' Athletic Conference weekly recognition in honor of their recent respective performances. The Grove City men's track and field team produced a pair of honorees as senior
Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) earned Track Athlete of the Week while freshman
Elijah Divito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Eden Christian) captured Newcomer of the Week.
In women's golf, freshman
Emily Burling (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) earned Newcomer of the Week distinction.
Mitchell finished first among Division III sprinters and third overall in the 400 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational last weekend with a time of 48.50 seconds. He also anchored Grove City's 1600 relay, which placed second with a time of 3:23.30. Mitchell's 400 time ranks first in both the conference and the Mid-Atlantic Region, while the 1600 relay ranks first in the conference and third in the Mid-Atlantic.
Divito posted a pair of runner-up finishes in field events at CMU. He posted a top mark of 21 feet, 3/4 inch in the long jump and cleared 6-2 3/4 in the high jump. Divito also helped Grove City's 400 relay take third with a time of 43.09 seconds.Â
Divito is currently ranked third in the conference in both the high and long jumps.Â
Burling won the individual title last Thursday at the Grove City Spring Invitational by shooting a 78 to win by three strokes. She then took fifth at the two-day Pennsylvania Classic in State College with a 36-hole score of 160. Burling shot a 79 Saturday, then carded an 81 in the final round.
The track and field team returns to action Saturday, April 11 at the Westminster Invitational in New Wilmington. Meanwhile, the women's golfers return to the course that same day in Selinsgrove, Pa., at the Susquehanna University Invitational.
