NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a 9-6 decision Friday night to Carthage in the quarterfinal round of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championship Tournament, hosted by Connecticut College.
Senior
Abby Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and junior
Elizabeth Andrews (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) both scored twice for Grove City (9-8) while sophomore
Tessa Leatherwood (Hurst, Texas/Colleyville Covenant) and freshman
Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each added a goal.
Andrews and Spicher both had two assists. Leatherwood and Miller each assisted one goal. Senior
Heidi Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) led the defense with three steals. She also blocked two shots.
In goal, sophomore
Alexa Dunn (Girard, Pa./Girard) recorded nine saves.
Grove City will face either Washington & Jefferson or Penn State Behrend at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the consolation bracket.
