WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference action Saturday by rolling to a pair of victories at Washington & Jefferson College. The Wolverines began the day with an 18-9 win over host W&J. Grove City then roared past Utica, 20-6, in the nightcap.

Elizabeth Andrews (Newberg, Ore./Newberg), sophomore
Tessa Leatherwood (Hurst, Texas/Colleyville Covenant), freshman
Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and senior
Abby Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) all scored four times in the win over W&J. Freshman
Sophia Melanson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored twice for the Wolverines.Â

Heidi Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) recorded five assists while Andrews, Leatherwood and Spicher all had three assists. Melanson assisted two goals and Miller tallied an assist.
Leatherwood led the Grove City defense with five steals and Schmidt had three steals. In goal, sophomore
Alexa Dunn (Girard, Pa./Girard) recorded 10 saves to secure the victory. Grove City trailed 5-4 after the first quarter but rallied to take a 10-6 lead by halftime.Â
A six-goal first quarter helped propel Grove City to its victory over Utica. Andrews, Spicher and freshman
Kyra Johnson (Hamilton, Va.) all pumped in four goals for Grove City while Miller scored three times. Leatherwood and junior
Haley Jennings (Somers, Conn./East Catholic) each had two goals and Melanson added a goal.Â
Leatherwood totaled five assists while Melanson, Schmidt and Spicher all had two assists. Johnson and Miller both assisted goals. Andrews led the defense with three steals. Dunn stopped 11 shots to earn her second win of the day.Â
Grove City will face conference foe Connecticut College at 8 a.m. Sunday in Washington, Pa. The Wolverines then meet Penn State Behrend at 11:30 a.m. Sunday to conclude the weekend of conference action.
