GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team extended its win streak to eight games Saturday by sweeping a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference games at James E. Longnecker Pool. Grove City (9-5, 8-0 CWPA D-III) opened the day with a 16-10 win over visiting Connecticut College. The Wolverines then downed Penn State Behrend, 14-12, to complete the sweep.

Elizabeth Andrews (Newberg, Ore./Veritas). Senior
Abby Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and sophomore
Tessa Leatherwood (Hurst, Texas/Colleyville Covenant) each scored three times while senior
Heidi Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) scored twice. Freshman
Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) also scored.

Sophia Melanson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) both tallied three assists in the win. Leatherwood and Schmidt both assisted two goals while Spicher added an assist.
Sophomore goalie
Alexa Dunn (Girard, Pa./Girard) led the defense with five steals. Miller had four takeaways and Leatherwood recorded three steals. Dunn stopped seven shots to earn her ninth win of the season.
Andrews and Spicher both scored four times in the win over Connecticut College. Leatherwood and Miller each scored three times and Melanson added a pair of goals. Schmidt assisted five goals and Leatherwood added four assists for Grove City. Melanson recorded two assists. Miller, Schmidt and freshman
Kyra Johnson (Hamilton, Va.) all had one assist.
Leatherwood led the defense with five steals and Dunn tallied three steals. Dunn made six saves in goal.
Grove City's eight-game win streak is the program's longest since 2012-13. Grove City won its final eight games in 2012, then opened 2013 with two wins.
The Wolverines will host Mercyhurst at 7 p.m. Friday night in non-conference play at James E. Longnecker Pool.
