GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team extended its win streak to six Friday by sweeping a pair of home matches in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III play. Grove City opened the day with an 18-10 victory over Washington & Jefferson. The Wolverines then rolled to a 21-7 win over visiting Utica in the nightcap at James E. Longnecker Pool.
Grove City charged out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter against W&J. The Wolverines then extended the lead to 11-2 by halftime.
Sophomore
Tessa Leatherwood (Hurst, Texas/Colleyville Covenant) fired in a career-high seven goals to help lead Grove City (7-5, 6-0 CWPA D-III) while senior
Abby Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and freshman
Elaine Miller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both scored four times. Junior
Elizabeth Andrews (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) added three goals in the victory.

Heidi Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) all assisted three goals. Andrews and freshman
Sophia Melanson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) both had two assists while Miller tallied one assist.
Defensively, Leatherwood, Schmidt and sophomore goalie
Alexa Dunn (Girard, Pa./Girard) all had five steals. Spicher recorded four steals and Andrews had three thefts. Dunn stopped 10 shots in goal to earn the win.
Another fast start helped propel Grove City to the win over Utica as the Wolverines led 6-1 after the first period. Andrews pumped in six goals to lead the Grove City attack. Miller had four goals while Melanson and Spicher both scored three times. Leatherwood and Schmidt each scored twice. Freshman
Kyra Johnson (Hamilton, Va.) also scored.
Leatherwood and Schmidt both had three assists and Andrews assisted two goals. Dunn also recorded two assists. Johnson, Melanson, Miller and senior
Jillian Breckenridge (Dunellen, N.J./Dunellen) all chalked up assists.
Dunn and Leatherwood both had five steals. Sophomore
Heather Russell (Frewsburg, N.Y./Frewsburg Central) both had four steals while Miller and Spicher each had three steals. Dunn stopped seven shots.
Grove City's six-game win streak is the program's longest since the Wolverines closed the 2012 season with eight straight wins, then won their first two games in 2013.
Saturday, the Wolverines host Connecticut College at 11:15 a.m. The Wolverines will then host Penn State Behrend at 4:30 p.m.
