STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Thanks to top 10 finishes from junior
Nathan Young (Street, Md./Homeschooled) and sophomore
Luke Gronbeck (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian), the Grove City College men's golf team placed 12th out of 22 teams at the Pennsylvania Classic, hosted March 28-29 by Penn State Altoona at the Penn State Blue Course.
Grove City finished the 36-hole event with a team score of 634. The Wolverines shot 327 Saturday, then posted a 307 in the second round. Washington & Jefferson won the event with a 601 while Penn State Altoona took second with 608.
Young and Gronbeck both shot 151 at the tournament. Young shot a 76 in the opening round, then fired a 75. Gronbeck posted a 75 Saturday and finished the second round with a 76.Â
Sophomore
Seth Hartman (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) tied for 56 with a two-day total of 160 (86-74). Senior
Jonah Kozora (Mars, Pa./Mars) and junior
Tyler Derstein (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite) tied for 100th place as each man shot 175. Kozora followed his first round 93 with an 82 while Derstein had respective rounds of 90 and 85.
Senior
Michael Astrab (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) competed as an individual and placed 91st. He shot consecutive rounds of 85, good for a 170.
The tournament featured 122 golfers. Allegheny's Christopher Hoffman earned medalist with a 141. All 22 competing teams were from Pennsylvania.
Grove City will compete in the Thiel Invitational next Monday, April 6.
