WHEELING, W.Va. -- The Grove City College men's golf team captured the team title Thursday afternoon at the Bethany College Spring Invitational by posting a team score of 319 at Oglebay. The Wolverines placed three men in the top five on the way to a seven-shot victory over runner-up Bethany.
Sophomore
Luke Gronbeck (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian) earned second place overall by shooting a 76. Junior
Tyler Derstein (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite) took fourth by posting a 78 while sophomore
Seth Hartman (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) followed in fifth by shooting 79.
Junior
Nathan Young (Street, Md./Homeschooled) fired an 86 to tie for 13th. Senior
Brian McDonnell (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) rounded out the lineup by taking 20th place. McDonnell carded an 89.
Two Grove City players competed as individuals at Thursday's event. Senior
Cayden Testa (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) tied McDonnell for 20th by shooting an 89. Senior
Michael Astrab (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) tied for 24th place with a round of 94.
Waynesburg University's Matthew Karpeal earned medalist with a 75 on the par 72 course. Thirty-eight men participated in the tournament.
Grove City returns to action next Monday at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational, held at Southpointe.
