Two more wins for Wolverines

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LITTLE RIVER, S.C. -- The Grove City College softball team improved to 3-0 by earning a pair of wins Tuesday during the Wolverines' Spring Break trip to North Myrtle Beach Complex. Grove City opened the day by rallying for a 3-2 win over previously-undefeated Wilkes (4-1). Grove City then rolled to a 19-9, five-inning win over St. Elizabeth (N.J.) in Tuesday's second game.

Grove City trailed Wilkes 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning but surged ahead after run-scoring singles from sophomore catcher Sydney Shay (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and freshman third baseman Emma Vok (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek).

Winning pitcher Alivia Lantzy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) then retired the Colonels in order in the top of the seventh inning to secure the win. The sophomore right-hander allowed one earned run and six hits in seven innings to capture her first Grove City victory.

Lantzy and Shay both went 2 for 3 at the plate. Lantzy scored twice. Junior left fielder Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) doubled.

Six Grove City players had multiple hits in the victory over St. Elizabeth. Freshman second baseman Zoey Lindner (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) belted a pair of triples and knocked in four runs while freshman first baseman Cora Myers (Blanchard, Pa./Central Mountain) went 2 for 4 with a triple and three runs batted in.

Shay went 2 for 3, as did junior DP Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion). Meadors drove in three runs and Shay knocked in a pair. Montone and senior center fielder Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) also had two hits each. Anthony and freshman shortstop Lily Meidl (Pataskala, Ohio/Licking Heights) both scored three runs.

Myers tripled in Meadors and Shay in the first inning to help Grove City bolt to a 3-0 lead. St. Elizabeth tied the game in the bottom of the first inning but Grove City countered with a nine-run outburst. Anthony, Meadors, Shay and Myers all had run-scoring singles. Meidl and senior catcher Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) both walked with the bases loaded before Lindner unloaded the bases with a three-run triple.

Junior pitcher Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) earned the win by pitching four innings. Meadors pitched a scoreless fifth inning. The game ended after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Grove City will face Chestnut Hill at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Wolverines will then play Wilson at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
