GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three Grove City College athletes earned Presidents' Athletic Conference weekly honors Tuesday afternoon in recognition of their respective performances last week.
The Grove City men's indoor track and field team produced two honorees as senior
Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) captured Track Athlete of the Week while Field Athlete of the Week distinction went to freshman
Elijah Divito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Eden Christian).
Freshman
Evan DiMalanta (Medina, Ohio/Highland) earned Newcomer of the Week in men's volleyball.
Mitchell won the 400 meters Saturday at the SPIRE Midwest Open with a season-best time of 48.74 seconds. He lowered his season best by .10 seconds and owns the top 400 time in both the conference and the Mid-Atlantic Region. This is Mitchell's second straight Track Athlete of the Week award.
Divito earned Field Athlete of the Week for the first time after earning the conference's Newcomer of the Week twice this winter.
Divito won the high jump Saturday at the SPIRE Midwest Open by clearing a Grove City-record height 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches. That mark ranks second in the conference and the region.
He also took first among Division III entrants in the long jump with a leap of 21-8 1/4. He finished sixth overall.
DiMalanta posted a .343 hitting percentage last week as Grove City split its two matches. He posted a 12-kill, 10-dig double-double January 20 at Mount Union while contributed three blocks. Two nights later, DiMalanta had four kills, three aces and two blocks in two sets of action as Grove City swept visiting Carlow.
The Grove City men's volleyball team returns to action this Friday and Saturday with three matches at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference/Presidents' Athletic Conference Crossover at Penn State Behrend.
Meanwhile, the track and field team will compete Friday and Saturday at Youngstown State's Mid-Major Invitational.
