ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's golf team placed sixth out of eight teams Friday and Saturday at the season-opening Malone Invitational, held at Tannenhauf Golf Course. Grove City, the only Division III team at the tournament, finished with a two-day total of 640. Malone won the event with a 603.
Sophomore
Luke Gronbeck (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian) led the Wolverines by placing second overall with a 36-hole total of 148. He shot even-par 72 Friday, then carded a 76 Saturday.
Junior
Nathan Young (Street, Md./Homeschooled) captured 21st with a 161 (84-77) while fellow junior
Tyler Derstein (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite) placed 23rd after shooting consecutive 81s.
Senior
Cayden Testa (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) finished 38th with a 170 (86-84). Sophomore
Seth Hartman (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) rounded out the lineup with a 173 (85-88). He placed 41st.
Grove City's "B" squad took eighth place with a 36-hole sum of 675. Freshman Topher Drombetta (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) led that quintet by finishing 33rd. Drombetta shot 84 and then an 82 for a total of 166.Â
Sophomore
Will Nelson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) finished 36th with a 167 (85-82). Senior
Jonah Kozora (Mars, Pa./Mars) finished 39th by shooting rounds of 86 and 85 for a 171. Senior
Michael Astrab (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) tied Hartman with a 173 (91-82). Sophomore
Will Whitehead (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) placed 44th with a two-day total of 184 (89-85).Â
Forty-seven men competed in the tournament. Malone's Jaxon Rinkes won the event with a 145.Â
Grove City will compete in Monday's Saint Vincent Invitational, held in Latrobe.
