Grove City earns two wins, three records at The Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team captured fourth place out of 23 teams Saturday at Slippery Rock University's Dave Labor Invitational. Thanks to two wins and three school records, the Wolverines accumulated 54.5 team points at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium to finish as the top Division III squad at the meet. 

Division I Kent State won the event with 163 points while host SRU had 129 points. Fellow Division II member PennWest California took third with 72.5 points.

Senior Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould) earned two wins in record-setting fashion Saturday. She won the 800 in a Grove City-record time of 2 minutes, 15.09 seconds. Bennett broke her own school standard in the 1500 by posting a winning time of 4:31.55. 

Senior Danika Sudar (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) broke her own program record in the hammer throw with a best toss of 145 feet, 10 inches. She finished seventh overall and second among Division III throwers in the event. 

Senior Ella Lyle (Hurricane, W.Va./Ignite) earned runner-up in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:28.53 while classmate Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover) followed with a third-place time of 18:33.65. Senior Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley) captured third in the 10,000-meter run (39:24.57).

Grove City earned fourth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 49.99 seconds. Senior Carolyn Colteryahn (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), freshman Nadine Lauffer (New Castle, Pa.), junior Rebecca Vezzosi (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Leonardtown, Md.) and freshman Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomenville) combined for that time, which ranks third in program history. 

Senior Julia Bauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) took fifth in the 10,000 with a time of 39:53.66. Sophomore Elly Bruner (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) cleared 5-1 in the high jump to take seventh place. Lauffer placed eighth in the 400 hurdles with the third-fastest time in school history, 1:06.72. 

Meanwhile, senior Kaylynn Johnson (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) placed eighth in the 1500 with a time of 4:50.49. Freshman Lucy Gyergyo (Wexford, Pa./Eden Christian) took ninth in the triple jump with a best leap of 34-5 3/4. 

Freshman Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) took 10th in the 800 (2:20.11) while freshman Maggie Mollenauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) finished 10th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 44:38.35.

Grove City returns to action next Saturday at the Westminster College Invitational.
