ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team placed fourth out of 45 teams at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Ithaca College. Wolverine athletes scored in six events, helping the team accumulate 26 team points at the two-day meet.
Grove City scored in all three relay events, including a victory in the distance medley relay. The foursome of senior
Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover), sophomore
Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima), junior
Audrey Karwowski (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and senior
Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould Academy) combined for a winning time of 11 minutes, 58.44 seconds.
Lawrence, Karwowski, freshman Nadie Lauffer (New Castle, Pa.) and freshman
Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) teamed to finish sixth in the 800 relay with a time of 1:47.25. That quartet also placed eighth in the 1600 relay (4:03.30).
Bennett also took fourth in the mile with a time of 5:00.46. Smith captured fifth in the 3000 meters (10:14.93). Sophomore
Elly Bruner (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) led Grove City in the field events by finishing sixth in the high jump. Bruner cleared 5 feet, 3 1/4 inches.
Karwowski also took ninth in the 800 (2:20.15), one spot ahead of Lawrence, who recorded a time of 2:20.28. Senior
Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley) captured 11th in the 5000 (18:36.33) while White placed 14th in the 60 meters in a time of 7.94 seconds.
White added a 16th-place finish in the 200 (26.03). Lauffer took 21st in the 400 (60.00) and 32nd in the 200 (27.21).
Geneseo State won the team title with 106 points while host Ithaca finished second with 81 1/3 points. Brockport State took third with 30 points.
Grove City now awaits the announcement of NCAA Championships qualifiers.
