UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team placed 11th out of 17 teams at the two-day Pennsylvania Classic, hosted March 29-30 by Penn State Altoona at Penn State University's Blue Course. Grove City shot 312 on each day of the tournament to finish with a team score of 624.
Allegheny won the team title with a 581 while Washington & Jefferson placed second with a 591 team score.
Freshman
Luke Gronbeck (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian) posted Grove City's top finish as he tied for fifth overall. Gronbeck shot consecutive rounds of 73 to finish with a 146 on the par 72 course.
Senior
Adam Steinmetz (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished 34th overall with a 154 (76-78) while senior
Max Vaughn (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern) placed 51st as he shot round of 82 and 77 for a 159.
Senior
Aidan Allen (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) shot 166 (81-85) to tie for 65th. Junior
Brian McDonnell (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) rounded out the lineup by taking 73rd. McDonnell shot back-to-back 84s for a score of 168.
Allegheny's Carter Hassenplug earned medalist with a 140. Ninety-six men competed in the tournament.
Grove City will compete Monday afternoon in the Geneva Invitational at Seven Oaks Golf Club.
