ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team opened its spring schedule Monday afternoon by winning the Geneva Spring Opener at Connoquenessing Country Club. Grove City finished with a team score of 313 to secure a two-stroke win over Geneva at the six-team event.
Four Grove City golfers finished in the top seven Monday, led by runner-up
Adam Steinmetz (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). Steinmetz shot 76 to take second in the 30-man field.Â
Freshman
Luke Gronbeck (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian) placed fourth with a 78 while sophomore
Nathan Young (Street, Md./Homeschooled) took sixth by shooting a 79. Senior
Max Vaughn (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern) earned seventh place with a round of 80.
Senior
Aidan Allen (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) rounded out the lineup with a 91, good for 23rd place.
The Grove City "B" squad finished fourth at Monday's tournament with a team total of 344. Freshman
Wade Springer (Topeka, Ind./Westview) captured 12th place with an 83 while classmate
Seth Hartman (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) finished 18th with an 86.Â
Sophomore
Tyler Derstein (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite) placed 19th with an 87. Freshman
Will Nelson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) finished 20th by shooting 88 and junior
Cayden Testa (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) tied Allen for 23rd with a 91.
Geneva's Austin Goehring earned medalist with a 74.
Grove City will host its annual McBride-Behringer-Allen "MBA" Invitational this Thursday afternoon at Grove City Country Club.
