GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team sent competitors to three indoor meets in the region Friday and Saturday as the Wolverines continue to prepare for the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships.
Grove City athletes competed at the Youngstown State Last Chance meet, the S.P.I.R.E. Collegiate Games in Geneva, Ohio, and the Nazareth (N.Y.) Division III Elite meet.
Grove City runners earned three wins at Nazareth. The distance medley relay team of senior
Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould Academy), junior
Audrey Karwowski (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), sophomore
Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and senior
Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover) won the event with a Grove City-record time of 12 minutes, 2.96 seconds.
Bennett also won the mile in a program-record time of 4:56.30. Smith, meanwhile, won the 3000 meters with a time of 10:19.40.
Lawrence captured third in the mile (5:15.47) while Bennett secured third place in the 800 with a time of 2:18.42. Karwowski followed in fourth with a time of 2:18.99 and Lawrence placed ninth in the 800 (2:24.75).
Three Grove City runners placed in the top 10 of the 5000 meters at the Collegiate Games. Senior
Ella Lyle (Hurricane, W.Va./Ignite) finished as runner-up in a time of 18:29.86. She placed one spot ahead of senior
Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley), who recorded a third-place time of 18:30.35. Senior
Julia Bauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) finished 10th in the 5000 (19:17.56).
Sophomore
Elly Bruner (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) cleared 5 feet, 1 inch in the high jump to earn 12th place. Senior
Danika Sudar (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) finished 13th in the weight throw with a best toss of 45-9 1/4.
Freshman
Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) took 13th in both the 60 (8.07) and 200 (26.24). Her 200-meter time is tops in program history while the 60-meter time ranks second on the program leaderboard.
Freshman
Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) took 14th in the mile (5:23.31) and 15th in the 800 (2:23.34). Freshman
Lucy Gyergyo (Wexford, Pa./Eden Christian) took 15th in the triple jump with a mark of 33-10 1/4.
Senior
Kaylynn Johnson (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) recorded Grove City's top finish at YSU by finishing sixth in the 3000 with a time of 10:55.35. Sophomore
Victoria Leak (Andover, N.H./Merrimack Valley) earned sixth in the triple jump (30-9 3/4) and seventh in the long jump (16-6 1/2). She also finished 10th in the 60 hurdles with a time of 10.60 seconds.
Freshman
Emma Haugh (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) finished 10th in the 400 (1:05.10) while classmate
Megan Marchand (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central) took 12th in that event with a time of 1:06.07. Senior
Janel McCray (Jessup, Md./Hammond) finished 12th in the 60 meters with a clocking of 8.67 seconds.
Grove City will compete at the Mount Union Tune-Up next Friday in Alliance, Ohio.
