YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's indoor track and field team continued its preparation for the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships by competing at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).
Senior
Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould Academy) helped pace Grove City by winning the 3000 meters in a school-record time of 10 minutes, 7.87 seconds. Bennett also finished second in the mile with a program-record time of 4:59.34.
Senior
Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover) earned fourth in the 1000 meters by recording a program-record time of 3:03.72. Meanwhile, sophomore
Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) took fifth in the 500 with a time of 1:22.36, which is the third-fastest time in program history.
Smith also finished eighth in the 500 (1:24.82). Sophomore
Elly Bruner (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) posted Grove City's top finish in the field as she claimed eighth in the high jump. Bruner cleared 5 feet, 1/2 inch.
Senior
Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley) took ninth in the 5000 (19:25.85). Senior
Danika Sudar (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) earned 10th in the weight throw with a best toss of 44-1 1/2. Meanwhile, junior
Megan Wise (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) finished 11th in the shot put with a best mark of 33-11 1/2.
Junior
Sydney Anderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) finished 12th in the 1000 (3:51.29) while freshman
Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) secured 13th in the 3000 (10:51.89). Bruner marked at 33-2 1/2 in the triple jump, good for 16th place.
Sophomore
Victoria Leak (Andover, N.H./Merrimack Valley) earned 16th in the pentathlon by accumulating 2,416 points. Sophomore
Hannah Costa (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) placed 18th in the 60 hurdles (10.28). She finished one spot ahead of freshman
Lucy Gyergyo (Wexford, Pa./Eden Christian), who finished 19th with a time of 10.31 seconds. Gyergyo also finished 19th in the triple jump with a best leap of 32-2 1/4.
Grove City returns to action February 14 at the Baldwin Wallace Mid-February Meet in Berea, Ohio.
