GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Presidents' Athletic Conference honored five Grove City College fall sports athletes Monday afternoon with weekly awards in recognition of their respective performances last week.
Junior
Sarah Hart (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) earned Offensive Player of the Week in women's volleyball while senior safety
Keagan Fraser (Butler, Pa./Knoch) captured Defensive Player of the Week in football.
The Grove City men's soccer team produced a pair of honorees as freshman goalkeeper
Keller Krieger (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence) earned Defensive Player of the Week while classmate
Judah Gray (Glen Mills, Pa./The Christian Academy) merited Newcomer of the Week.
Grove City's women's soccer squad also produced the league's Newcomer of the Week as freshman forward
Lauren Muhanna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon) captured this week's award.
Hart helped Grove City (15-6, 7-5 PAC) to a 3-0 week last week as she averaged 3.60 kills per set while recording a .383 hitting percentage. She tallied 10 kills in last Wednesday's 3-0 win at Thiel, then added 11 kills in a 3-1 home victory Saturday over South Division leader Chatham.
Hart capped the week with 15 kills on 28 attempts as the Wolverines swept Messiah in Saturday's home tri-match. Her .309 hitting percentage ranks second in the PAC and first among all outside hitters. She leads Grove City in kills per set (3.44).
Fraser intercepted two passes Saturday in Grove City's 14-7 victory over conference rival Westminster at Robert E. Thorn Field. He intercepted a Westminster pass at the Grove City 1 in the first quarter, then set up the Wolverines' go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter with an interception and subsequent return to the Westminster 18.
Fraser also recorded five tackles, helping Grove City (5-2, 4-1) limit Westminster to 57 rushing yards. Fraser now has a team-leading four interceptions this season.
Krieger helped the Wolverines secure two home shutouts in conference play last week at Don Lyle Field. Last Wednesday night, he made two saves in a 4-0 win over Saint Vincent. That win clinched the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Krieger then made one save in 77:37 of action Saturday in Grove City's 4-0 victory over Washington & Jefferson. He lowered his goals-against average to 0.53, which currently ranks first in Grove City's single-season history. Grove City (12-2-2, 9-0-1) has eight shutouts this year.
Gray scored a goal and added an assist Wednesday night against Saint Vincent. He then scored a goal Saturday in the Wolverines' 4-0 win over W&J. Those are Gray's first two goals of the season.
Muhanna helped the Wolverines to a pair of conference victories last week. She recorded an assist last Wednesday night in a 3-0 win over Saint Vincent, then chalked up a goal and an assist Saturday as Grove City closed its home schedule with a 7-0 victory over W&J at Don Lyle Field.
The wins secured a quarterfinal round bye for Grove City in the upcoming conference tournament. Muhanna leads the Wolverines (10-4-2, 9-0-1) with eight assists. Her 16 points are second on the team.
The Grove City volleyball team hosts Westminster at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a key PAC North Division match. The football team hosts Saint Vincent at 1 p.m. Saturday in the regular season home finale.
Meanwhile, the Grove City soccer teams visit Waynesburg for a conference doubleheader Wednesday. The women's match will start at 6 p.m., with the men's clash to follow. Both Grove City soccer teams will host conference tournament semifinal matches Wednesday, November 5.
