GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College sophomore men's track and field performer
Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) earned Presidents' Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday afternoon in recognition of his efforts last Friday and Saturday at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational.
Mitchell won the 500 with a program-record time of 1 minute, 4.91 seconds. He also took second overall in the 400 meters with a time of 48.79 seconds. That time ranked first among Division III entrants in the 400.
Mitchell closed out the weekend by anchoring the Wolverines' 1600 relay that finished seventh overall in 3:28.92. That time ranked first among Division III squads in the event. It is also the No. 2 time this season in the conference.
The Wolverine thinclads return to action this Friday and Saturday. Grove City will compete Friday afternoon and evening in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational in Berea, Ohio. A number of Grove City athletes will compete Saturday in the S.P.I.R.E. Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
