YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Grove City College indoor men's track and field team captured the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship Thursday night by accumulating 140.5 team points at Youngstown State University's Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS). The Wolverines earned a 15-point margin of victory over runner-up Washington & Jefferson (125.5 points).
It is Grove City's first conference title in men's indoor track and field.
Four men earned wins for Grove City, led by double-winner
Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian). A sophomore, Mitchell won the 200 meters in a school-record time of 22.07 seconds. He then set meet and school records in the 400 meters with a winning time of 48.38 seconds.
Three Grove City field performers also earned wins. Sophomore
Michael Chambers (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won the pole vault by clearing 14 feet, 7 1/4 inches. Chambers also set a program record with his performance.Â
Senior
Nick Gustafson (Newburg, Pa./Shippensburg) won the shot put with a season-best effort of 50-4 1/2. Junior
Nick Petucci (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) prevailed in the triple jump with a best leap of 44-4 3/4. That is 1 1/2 inches shy of his school record, set earlier this year.Â
Junior
Ryan Lenhart (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) earned runner-up in both throwing events. He took second in the shot put with a top effort of 48-9. He then posted a distance of 46-9 in the weight throw, good for second place.Â

Isaac Young (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) and junior
Tyler Eagan (Concord, N.C.) combined for a runner-up time of 3:24.76 in the 1600-meter relay, which clinched the team championship.
Eagan also finished third in the long jump with a best mark of 21-5 1/4. Senior
J.D. Black (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) took third in the weight throw with a best toss of 46 feet, 3/4 inch.Â

Young added a fourth-place finish in the 800 (1:58.06). Freshman Max Ware (Winchester, Va./Handley) placed fourth in the 3000 meters (9:14.99) while sophomore
Tucker Owens (Gainesville, N.Y./Letchworth) cleared 12-11 1/2 to take fourth in the pole vault.Â
Eagan also cleared 12-11 1/2 in the pole vault, earning fifth place. He also took fifth in the triple jump with a best mark of 41-11 1/4. Senior
Gabe Dunlap (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) finished fifth in the high jump by clearing 5-10 3/4. He also took sixth in the long jump with a best mark of 20-7 3/4. Black finished sixth in the shot put (45-3 3/4). Sophomore
Caleb Hawke (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) secured sixth place in the 3000 (9:17.38).
Dunlap finished seventh in the pole vault (11-5 3/4) and 60-meter dash (7.16 seconds). Boyer took seventh in the 60 hurdles (9.08) while Wilson took seventh in the 200 wiht a time of 22.78 seconds. Busler finished seventh in the 800 (1:59.48) and Roberts claimed seventh in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:48.67.Â
Dunlap also scored in the triple jump by finishing eighth with a leap of 40-9 3/4. He scored in five events. Junior
Andrew Coffee (Salem, Ohio/West Branch) earned eighth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.23 seconds.
Head coach
Jessica Cooper earned the conference's Coach of the Year award. The Wolverines placed third at the indoor championships in both 2022 and 2023.Â
Several athletes have qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Championships, which will be held March 1-2 at Nazareth University.
