CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's track and field squad earned six wins Saturday at the season-opening Case Western Reserve Holiday Classic.
Senior
Rebecca Vezzosi (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Leonardtown, Md.) and sophomore
Elly Bruner (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) both won field events while senior
Julia Bauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills), senior
Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould) and senior
Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover) all won distance events.

Carolyn Colteryahn (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), freshman
Nadine Lauffer and freshman
Hannah Roegiers (Marion, N.Y./Marion Central) combined to win the 800-meter relay in 1 minute, 53.73 seconds.
Vezzosi won the long jump with a best mark of 16 feet, 11 1/2 inches while Bruner cleared 5 foot, 3 inches to win the high jump. Bauer posted a winning time of 19:03.43 in the 5,000 meters and Bennett posted a winning time of 5:05.10 in the mile. Smith won the 3000 meters in 10:34.66.
Grove City also produced the runner-up in each of the three distance events. Sophomore
Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) placed second in the mile (5:24.82) while senior
Ella Lyle (Hurricane, W.Va./Ignite) finished second in the 3000 with a time of 10:39.64. Senior
Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley) crossed second in the 5000 with a time of 19:04.37.
Freshman
Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) followed in third in the 5000 with a time of 19:13.03. Colteryahn finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.25 seconds. Junior
Megan Wise (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) earned fifth in the shot put with a best mark of 37-2 1/4.
Senior
Tori Stewart (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) cleared 4-11 to finish sixth in the high jump. Freshman
Abigail Nelson (Cheverly, Md.) captured sixth in the mile (6:04.40). Lauffer finished seventh in the 400 (1:04.31) while senior
Danika Sudar (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) took seventh in the shot put (33-7 1/2).
Saturday's meet closes the first semester for Grove City. The Wolverines return to action January 17 at the Youngstown State Collegiate Invitational.
