HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team earned second place Sunday at the Thiel Invitational, held at Avalon Buhl. Grove City finished with a team score of 301, one shot behind Westminster. Pitt-Bradford took third with a 327 and Grove City's "B" squad took fourth with a 331. Inclement weather moved the event from Saturday to Sunday.
Grove City's top quintet placed four men in the top 10. Sophomore
Luke Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) paced Grove City by taking seventh overall with a 74. Classmate
Adam Steinmetz (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) posted a 75, good for eighth place.Â
Sophomore
Max Vaughn (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern) and junior
Todd Hangliter (Mars, Pa./Seneca Valley) both shot 76 and tied for 10th place.Â
Sophomore
Aidan Allen (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) rounded out the squad with a 79. Allen placed 15th.
Seniors
Ben Lockwood (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) and
Owen North (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) paced Grove City's second unit by each shooting 81. Lockwood and North tied for 23rd on the leaderboard.
Senior
Caleb Husovich (Simi Valley, Calif.) took 27th with an 83 while junior
Andrew Solman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) placed 29th by shooting an 86. Senior
Mark Guinta (Fairfield, Conn./Christian Heritage) rounded out the "B" team with a 92, good for 33rd.
Two Grove City men competed as individuals. Senior
Austin Basham (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) fired an 80, earning 21st place. Junior
Clark Fraser (Butler, Pa./Knoch) posted a 95, placing 36th.
Five men tied for first by shooting 72, with Malone's Luke Gutman earning medalist via a scorecard playoff. Thirty-seven men competed in the tournament.
Grove City returns to action next Monday, April 10, at the Westminster Invitational in New Castle.
