Box Score 2 MONACA, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team stepped out of Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday by splitting a non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Beaver (20-11). Grove City won the opener in five innings, 12-4, while Beaver held off a Grove City rally in Game Two to secure a 7-6 decision.
Grove City (17-13) bolted to a 6-0 lead in the opener as 10 women went to the plate in the top of the first inning. Sophomore right fielder
Ella Krarup (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) cracked a two-run double in the inning while junior second baseman
Erin Mulholland (Malvern, Pa./Delaware County Christian) drove in two runs with a single. Senior first baseman
Michaela Ban (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) doubled in a run while freshman shortstop
Rylie Eaton (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added a run-scoring single during the outburst.Â
Penn State Beaver trimmed Grove City's lead to 6-3 but the Wolverines broke open the game with three runs in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth inning. Ban's bases-loaded walk in the fourth scored junior catcher
Lauren Harris (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). Mulholland then singled in junior third baseman
Emily Smyth (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) and sophomore pitcher
Brooke Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore) to give the Wolverines a 9-3 lead.
In the fifth, Brodie doubled in Harris and Krarup. Brodie later scored on a double from sophomore
Emily Wentworth (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam).Â
Sophomore left fielder
Kamryn Weissinger (Youngsville, Pa./Youngsville) also doubled for Grove City, which finished with 11 hits. Ban went 2 for 2, along with two walks. Brodie scored three times while Harris scored twice.Â
Brodie earned the win by pitching five innings. She permitted four runs and seven hits while striking out two. It is Brodie's first collegiate win.
Grove City trailed 7-3 in the nightcap before battling back with single runs in each of the final three innings. Weissinger's fifth-inning single scored freshman DP
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion), cutting the lead to 7-4. Krarup scored on an error in the sixth.
In the seventh inning, freshman catcher
Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) doubled with one out and then scored when senior center fielder
Clare Moran (Watertown, N.Y./Indian River) belted a double. However, Grove City stranded Moran at third base.Â
Moran and Tesch both went 2 for 4 while Anthony scored a pair of runs. Eight of Grove City's nine offensive starters had at least one hit.Â
Freshman pitcher
Miranda Metro (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) started for Grove City and allowed six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. Junior
Kaitlyn Constantino (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Constantino struck out three and allowed one hit.Â
