2022 football schedule released

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Six home games and the revival of a series that dates back to 1899 highlight the 2022 Grove City College football schedule. Grove City will again play a 10-game regular season, including eight games in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The 128th season of intercollegiate football begins with consecutive home games at Robert E. Thorn Field. Grove City will host Juniata in the September 3 season opener, marking the eighth consecutive fall season in which the teams meet in the opener.

The Wolverines then hosts Geneva at 1 p.m. September 10. That game will be considered a non-conference game for both teams due to the conference's unbalanced schedule for the 2022 season.

The road and conference schedules commence September 17 with a 1 p.m. kickoff at 2021 conference champion Carnegie Mellon. Last season, Grove City handed CMU its lone league loss, a 13-6 decision at Thorn Field.

Grove City returns to Thorn Field for consecutive home games. The Wolverines will host Saint Vincent in the annual night home game September 24. Seven days later, Case Western Reserve visits Grove City for Homecoming 2022.

The night game will kick off at 7 p.m. while the Homecoming tilt will have the traditional 2 p.m. start time.

The Wolverines will follow their back-to-back home games by heading on the road for two straight weeks. Grove City visits Bethany at 1 p.m. October 8.

One week later, the Wolverines head to Meadville to play Allegheny in the first-ever meeting between the programs as conference rivals. Grove City first played Allegheny in 1899 and the Wolverines lead the series, 34-29-7. The teams last met November 7, 1987.

Allegheny left the conference after the 1983 season and Grove City joined the league prior to the 1984 campaign.

The final month of the regular season features a pair of home games and the Wolverines' open date. Grove City will host archrival Westminster at 1 p.m. October 22. The last four Grove City-Westminster games have been decided by a total of 13 points, with each team winning twice.

Following the Wolverines' open week, Grove City caps its road schedule with a November 5 clash at Washington & Jefferson.

The regular season concludes November 12 at Thorn Field when the Wolverines host Thiel in the 38th annual Mercer County Cup game. Grove City leads the Cup series, 25-12, and has won each of the last four Mercer County Cup games.

Seventh-year head coach Andrew DiDonato and staff will welcome approximately 120 hopefuls to campus August 9 for the start of preseason camp.

The return of Allegheny to the Presidents' Athletic Conference gives the league 11 football programs. The league is using its eight-game unbalanced schedule for only 2022. Starting in 2023, all 11 teams will play a 10-game, round-robin schedule over the course of 11 weeks.
