GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College indoor track and field performers earned weekly recognition Tuesday evening from the Presidents' Athletic Conference in honor of their respective performances last Friday at the season-opening Youngstown State University Icebreaker.
Senior
Emma Vezzosi (St. Mary's County, Md./Leonardtown) earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors. On the men's side, freshman
Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) captured Rookie of the Week.
Vezzosi set Grove City's indoor record in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 4 inches. She finished first among D-III long jumpers and 14th overall in the field. Vezzosi also posted a time of 8.04 seconds in the 60-meter dash, the top time among Division III entrants at YSU.
Mitchell recorded Grove City's top individual finish at the YSU Icebreaker, as he finished seventh overall and seventh among Division III runners in the 400 meters with a time of 49.95 seconds. That is the second-fastest time in program history. Mitchell also posted a program-best time of 22.65 seconds in the 200 to take 15th overall and second among Division III entrants.
Friday's meet marked the lone competition for the Wolverines in the fall semester. Grove City returns to action Friday, January 20 with a trip back to Youngstown for the YSU Invitational.
