GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team will visit Cabrini University in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The teams will meet next Saturday, May 15 in Radnor, Pa., at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Both teams earned automatic berths in this year's 31-team national tournament by winning their respective conference tournaments. Grove City (11-1) won the Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday night with a 19-6 home victory over Westminster. Cabrini (10-2) defeated visiting Neumann, 19-5, in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament championship game.Â
Grove City will be making its second all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In 2019, Grove City fell to Maritime (N.Y.) in the first round, 14-13, in overtime at Salisbury, Md.
Cabrini will make its 19th consecutive appearance in the national tournament. The Cavaliers won the 2019 national title by defeating Amherst, 16-12. Cabrini is 19-17 all-time in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.Â
This will be the first meeting between the programs. The winner of the Grove City-Cabrini game will play either Salisbury or S.U.N.Y.-Poly (N.Y.). in Sunday's second round. The Salisbury-Poly game will also be held Saturday.
