Bethany clips Grove City

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped both ends of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Bethany. Bethany earned a 3-0 win in the opener and then pulled out a 3-2 win in the nightcap at Bethany Park.

In Game Two, Grove City trailed 3-1 in the sixth inning but freshman DH Brandon Gresh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) cut the lead in half with a solo homer, his first of the season. The Wolverines put the tying run on base in the seventh but could not pull even.

Freshman pitcher Andrew Taylor (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) started for Grove City and allowed two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Sophomore Ryan Gallagher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Freshman pitcher Ben Finlan (State College, Pa./State College) fired a complete game in the opener for the Wolverines (2-4 PAC). He yielded just two earned runs and four hits in six innings but took the setback. The game featured just seven total hits, all singles.

Grove City (4-11 overall) will visit Thomas More this weekend for a conference series. The teams will play a single game Friday before playing a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Crestview Hills, Ky.
