GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Presidents' Athletic Conference recognized three Grove City College spring sports athletes with weekly honors Monday afternoon after their respective recent performances.
The Grove City baseball team produced a pair of honorees as senior first baseman
Colin Marinpetro (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) earned Hitter of the Week and freshman third baseman
Nick Remish (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) captured Newcomer of the Week.
Sophomore
Allen Morris (Perry, Ohio/Perry) secured Player of the Week distinction in men's tennis.
Marinpetro helped Grove City to a 2-1 start on its Spring Break trip to central Florida by going 8 for 13 (.615) with three doubles, seven runs scored, seven runs batted in and three walks. He recorded a 1.471 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) for the week.
Friday, he opened the trip by going 4 for 5 with three doubles, four runs scored and four runs knocked in as Grove City downed John Jay, 23-9. The next day, Marinpetro had three singles, drove in two runs and scored twice against Concordia.
Remish opened Grove City's Spring Break trip with three multi-hit games in Florida. He went 6 for 12 (.500) with eight runs batted in, six runs scored, a home run and two doubles. Remish went 2 for 4 with four runs scored and two doubles Friday against John Jay. He then homered and knocked in three runs Saturday against Concordia (Ill.).
The next day, Remish had two hits and three runs batted in to help Grove City to an 11-7 win over St. Olaf.
Morris earned two wins Saturday to help the Wolverines to a 5-2 non-conference victory at Mount Union. He earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles after teaming with classmate
Kiser Swain (Frisco, Texas/Frisco Reedy) for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Grove City baseball team continues its spring trip Wednesday with a 4:15 p.m. game against Illinois College. The men's tennis team hosts Franciscan in the conference opener Tuesday, March 24 at 4 p.m.
