GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's golf team placed fifth out of 16 teams at its own Fall Invitational, held Monday afternoon at sun-splashed Grove City Country Club.
Grove City finished the tournament with a team score of 306. Saint Vincent won the event with a 288, followed by Washington & Jefferson (292), Mount Aloysius (300) and PennWest Clarion (302).
Sophomore
Luke Gronbeck (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian) led Grove City by shooting a 73. He placed eighth in the 97-man field.Â
Senior
Jonah Kozora (Mars, Pa./Mars) took 23rd with a 77. Junior
Nathan Young (Street, Md./Homeschooled) tied junior teammate
Tyler Derstein (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite) for 33rd place. Both men shot 78. Sophomore
Seth Hartman (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) finished 39th by shooting a 79.
Grove City also entered a "B" team in Monday's tournament. That quintet finished 13th overall with a 328.Â
Seniors
Michael Astrab (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and
Brian McDonnell (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) led the second squad by tying for 39th. Both players shot 79. Senior
Cayden Testa (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) finished 67th with an 84 while freshman Topher Drombetta (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) finished 74th with a round of 86.
Sophomore
Will Nelson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) rounded out the "B" lineup with an 87, good for 81st place.
Four Grove City competitors played as individuals. Junior
Daniel Artale (Lititz, Pa./Homeschooled) and junior Hayden McCreadie (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) both shot 86s to tie Drombetta for 74th. Sophomore
Will Whitehead (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) took 86th by shooting an 89. Sophomore
Maxwell Caimano (Washington, Pa./Peters Township) placed 92nd with a 93.
Saint Vincent's David Newsom earned medalist with a 69 on the par-72 course.Â
Grove City will compete at the Waynesburg University Invitational next Monday. That will be the Wolverines' final preparation for the Presidents' Athletic Conference Fall Championships, which will be held October 13-14 in Warren, Ohio.
