Three earn conference awards Monday

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three Grove City College fall sports athletes earned Presidents' Athletic Conference weekly recognition Monday afternoon in honor of their respective performances last week.

Junior linebacker Caleb Brubaker (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) captured Special Teams Player of the Week in football while graduate student men's soccer player Connor Hudson (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) secured Defensive Player of the Week.

In women's soccer, freshman midfielder Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) earned Newcomer of the Week for the second straight week.

Brubaker blocked a punt in the second quarter and recovered the ball at the Thiel 5, setting up a Grove City touchdown Saturday afternoon in Grove City's 59-7 home win in the 40th Mercer County Cup game. Brubaker added aa tackle on kickoff coverage, one of his team-leading eight stops in the win. He also Brubaker returned an interception 31 yards to the Thiel 4 in the second quarter, setting up another Grove City touchdown.

It is Brubaker's second weekly award from the conference this season. He earned Defensive Player of the Week after Grove City's Week One win over Geneva.

Hudson helped Grove City post two shutouts last week in conference play. Last Tuesday night at Saint Vincent, he helped Grove City hold the Bearcats to five total shots and no shots on goal in a 2-0 win. Hudson also scored Grove City's second goal in the win. Saturday at Washington & Jefferson, Hudson and the Grove City defense limited W&J to four shots on goal in another 2-0 win.

Those shutouts respectively marked the sixth and seventh clean sheets of the season by the Grove City defense.

White scored two goals and assisted on a third goal Saturday afternoon in Grove City's 7-0 win at W&J. She assisted on the team's second goal in the 33rd minute and then scored her first goal four minutes later. White closed Grove City's scoring with a goal in the 69th minute.

White helped Grove City clinch a quarterfinal round bye with wins at W&J and Saint Vincent last week. She has six goals, four assists and 16 total points this year, ranking second on the team in all three categories.

Brubaker and the Grove City football team (6-1) will visit Waynesburg University at 1 p.m. Saturday. The men's and women's soccer teams will both host Waynesburg University in the regular season finale Wednesday at Don Lyle Field. The men's match starts at 4:30 p.m. and the women will kick off at 7 p.m.
