Three earn conference honors Tuesday

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Presidents' Athletic Conference honored three Grove City College fall sports athletes with weekly awards Tuesday afternoon in recognition of their respective performances last week.

Sophomore Emily Burling (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) captured Women's Golfer of the Week while two Grove City women's cross country runners earned weekly honors. Senior Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) is this week's Runner of the Week and freshman Josie Jones (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) captured Newcomer of the Week in women's cross country.

Burling won the Mount Union Invitational on September 6th by shooting a 74. She earned medalist honors with a five-stroke margin of victory. Burling helped Grove City post a team score of 333, the lowest single-round score in program history. The Wolverines finished second in the team standings to host Mount Union by one shot.

Lawrence won the individual title Friday night at the season-opening Westminster Fisher Invitational by completing the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 34.6 seconds. She helped Grove City to the team title at the six-team meet with 22 points, good for a 25-point margin of victory.

Friday night at Westminster, Jones finished second overall in her collegiate debut by posting a time of 19:40.5. Her performance helped the Wolverines claim the team title at the Fisher Invitational.

The women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the Penn State Altoona Toftrees Invitational. Meanwhile, the cross country team resumes action September 26 at the Lock Haven Invitational.
