NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team opened the 2026 season Friday evening by winning the Westminster College Fisher Invitational with a meet-low 22 points. 

Senior Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) won the individual title by completing the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 34.6 seconds. Three teammates joined Lawrence in the top five. 

Freshman Josie Jones (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) finished second in her collegiate debut by posting a time of 19:40.5. Junior Rebekah Burger (San Diego, Calif./Cambridge) placed third with a time of 19:59.8.

Junior Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) secured fifth place with a 20:57.3 clocking. 

Four additional Wolverines finished in the top 20. Sophomore Erika Doolittle (Clarington, Pa./Brookville) finished 11th (21:29.7) while junior Abigail Nelson (Cheverly, Md.) earned 16th place with a time of 21:40.6. Sophomore Lydia Wheaton (Bluemont, Va./St. Sebastian) finished 19th (21:59.1) and junior Maggie Mollenauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) took 20th in a time of 21:59.9.

The meet featured 76 runners. Geneva finished second with 47 points while Waynesburg University took third with 101 points.

Grove City returns to action September 26 at the Lock Haven Invitational.
